華府外交媒體《尼爾森報導》（Nelson Report）20日報導，曾在亞洲擔任記者的美軍陸戰隊退役上尉博明（Matt Pottinger）將出任白宮國家安全會議亞洲事務資深主任，主管川普政府對包括台灣、中國在內的亞洲外交與軍事政策。

這項人事案若屬實，將首創白宮起用兼具媒體與軍事背景人士主掌亞洲事務的先例。這個職務是白宮與美國在台協會和我駐美代表處最直接的溝通管道。

現年42歲的博明在麻州大學主修中文，1998至2001年擔任《路透》新聞社記者，2001至2005年轉任《華爾街日報》，期間派駐北京和香港。他做過許多包括環保和貪腐的調查採訪，跑過2003年的SARS疫情，曾獲得亞洲出版業協會（SOPA）新聞獎。

新聞同業形容，博明是一位「熱血澎湃」的記者。博明曾在北京因報導中國大陸的貪腐問題而遭逮捕，他接受美國廣播公司訪問時回憶說，「我那時被一群中國警察圍著，就站在廁所裡，看著我的採訪筆記一頁頁被撕碎，沖進馬桶。年菜盒」

2005年博明決定投筆從戎，並通過重重考驗，以32歲之齡加入美軍陸戰隊，先後曾派駐伊拉克與阿富汗。博明與川普提名的白宮國家安全顧問佛林熟識。2010年8月他以陸戰隊上尉官階退役後，重返寫作工作，與佛林等合著了「修補情報：讓情報在阿富汗發揮作用的藍圖」報告。

過去白宮國安會議亞洲事務資深主任多為學者出身，博明則曾在中國實際生活工作多年，對大陸擁有豐富的第一手觀察經驗，據信風格將大不同。現任白宮國安會議亞洲事務資深主任為康達（Daniel Kritenbrink）。
